Is there a program that will scan an mp3 to determine whether or not it contains any silence or gaps?

I’d like to find out if there is a program that will automatically scan an mp3 file (or a batch of mp3s) and determine whether or not the song(s) contains any silence or gaps. After ripping my cd collection to mp3, I seem to be experienceing an occasional 6-8 second gap in a song every now & then. I know there are programs that will let me view the mp3 as a wavelength, but I’d have to do each mp3 individually & that will take months! Is there anything out there that can make it easier?

What is the real difference between an ipod and a MP3 player?

My dad said I could buy either one but I am not sure of the difference. I know they have different brand names but I want to know the different types of Ipod(nano, shuffle, etc.) compared to an MP3 player. I am confused and don’t know which one to buy. And I don’t have a lot of time. My friends think I should buy an iPod but there isn’t much difference from an MP3 player besides the price.

Thanks for your help.
